Deleting cells

I have a question about deleting cells. In Excel you can do that and shift the cells - left or right, or up or down. I have a spreadsheet in Numbers with several pages for several years' data. I have previously been able to delete cells and shift in Numbers, but do not see that option any more after the latest update. I do not want to delete information in the spreadsheet, just shift the remaining parts of the table. My spreadsheet is not a "typical" spreadsheet; there are several sections - left and right, up and down - that have info. When I want to make one section shorter or longer, I can no longer do that without adding or deleting rows or columns. Why take away the ability to shift cells for this release?
