Stolen iPhone, can they still view content via Airplane Mode?

I was mugged in London recently. I reported it stolen and activated wipe on the phone, which won't actually until its connected online data/wifi. I'm concerned they can still view my content ie: Messenger, emails etc if they have it on Airplane mode. Could someone clarify this?

If you had a lock screen passcode on the device they cannot view anything. The following has some information on other things to do (e.g., contact your mobile carrier): If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen - Apple Support
