While opening my last project in Logic Pro X I accidentally clicked to open "saved" version instead of auto-saved and half of the project wasn't even inside. hours of work are just trashed 😟 or no? Is there a way to recover latest version?

Try the "Revert To" function in File > Revert To > select the appropriate backup version (they are time-stamped). Perhaps, what you put as "auto-saved" version of your project is among these backups? There's no guarantee that's the case though, so please experiment with a duplicated version of the project file.

I will not let you down gently. That choice you got is from whatever was in the autosave folder (so that is every little bit that wasn't yet saved before the crash) or the last actually saved version. If you clicked "Saved version" then the autosave folder is emptied and cannot be salvaged. You have indeed lost everything you did since your very last save. The lesson is to not make two mistakes: the first is to not save for a long time, and the second is to choose "Saved version" after a crash. Only a combination of these two mistakes will make you lose your work.
The only reason to choose "Saved version" if you get that dialog is when you have deliberately force quit Logic in order to throw away all the work you've done since the last save. In every other scenario you should choose:
