windows 10 icloud drive fails to upload

Greetings,

I have a folder inside my windows 10 icloud drive folder, and when I copy files into that folder I expect to see them on icloud.com and on my other devices. I don't.

Is there an icloud for windows setting I need to make sure is properly set and how do I get to that setting?

Hey Joe_Cahill,

I see that you're having some trouble with iCloud Drive syncing files the way it should while using iCloud for Windows. I'll be happy to help out.

Make sure that you're logged into the right Apple ID on all devices, and that iCloud Drive is also set up on your other devices: Set up iCloud Drive

If everything is set up correctly and you're still having trouble, take a look at some reasons why your files might not be updating: Get help with iCloud Drive

Good morning Joe_Cahill!

Thanks for following up! The best way to determine if either side is syncing your iCloud Drive files to iCloud is to go ahead and create a document on each device (named differently) and place it into the iCloud Drive folder, then sign in to iCloud.com using a browser on a computer. Click iCloud Drive. Do you see any files uploaded here from either of your devices? This will tell us if any of your devices are syncing to iCloud correctly.

Thanks for isolating the issue with those steps. It does sound like the problem is with iCloud for Windows uploading to iCloud. A couple of other things to try is to temporarily disable or remove security software to see if this preventing files from being uploaded, or to test in a test user account in Windows to see if any third-party software is causing this issue.

If you're still having trouble uploading, Contact Apple Support directly for further investigation.

Thanks for taking a look and offering those fundamental tips.

I see in my windows icloud drive folder files that I just added on my iphone, can I take that as a sign that I have my iphone set up properly and signed in, and that my windows icloud drive is signed in also and has a good internet connection?

I have over 100GB of available space on icloud.

I have also tried the "Create a new document and save it to see if it uploads to iCloud. If it does, see if the other documents start uploading." suggestion; the new document does not upload and the other documents don't start uploading either.

Hopefully there's a next layer or two of suggestions awaiting. Thanks.

Methodical, I like it.

On my iphone in Notes I created a note with text to identify the file as being created on the iphone. I copied it to Files and the file name was text.txt. But I already had text.txt files there so it became text 6.txt.

I see text 6.txt on icloud drive in icloud.com with internet explorer.

And I see text 6.txt on icloud drive on my windows 10 laptop.

That looks like success from my iphone to my laptop, right?

On my laptop I created two files, each with names identifying their origin. One was created with file explorer's 'new file' dialog inside of my icloud drive folder and the other was created with the desktop's 'new file' dialog on my desktop and dragged into my icloud drive folder.

Neither file appears in my icloud drive in icloud.com with internet explorer.

Neither file appears in icloud on my iphone.

This failure to update from my laptop to the icloud is the problem that has me stumped.
