Can I use eSIM for data on secondary line and use WiFi calling on primary line?

Is it possible to set up data on a secondary line (using eSIM), and use WiFi calling on the primary line where the WiFi call is not actually on WiFi but is using data from the secondary line. This is a desired scenario when travelling internationally -- purchase a data plan from a local carrier in the foreign country, then use your primary phone number to make and receive WiFi (data) calls, texts and messages.

I usually accomplish a similar objective by using a puck with a data plan from the local carrier, then I switch off cellular data on my phone and use my phone normally with a WiFi connection to the puck. I can make and receive phone calls on my phone as I normally do -- using the WiFi connection to the puck -- without incurring hefty international charges from my domestic carrier. Can I get rid of the puck now and replace it with the eSIM-based secondary line for a data connection to the local carrier?
