Apple Mail IMAP and SMTP not working

Has Apple Mail work for anyone? I have had constant problems sending and receiving messages using Apple Mail IMAP and SMTP. What excuses did you receive from Apple tech support?

Have you at least checked on your server settings? Are you on Comcast/ if so then go to Mail preferences then Accounts and select server setting tab. uncheck auto manage connection and change the port number to 993 and while you are at it go to SMTP uncheck auto manage and check that port to 587

If this is all true then come back and apologize for that Apple support comment.
