CRT Monitor for HD??

Question

CRT Monitor for HD??

I am doing some editing in HD but right now I only have an SD monitor. My IT guy asked if we could use a CRT monitor for veiwing rather than buying an HD monitor. Also if anybody can steer me in a good direction on a what monitors to look into that would help. I'm a little confused about the whole monitor situation. All advice is appreciated.

Did he mean use a computer CRT monitor for HD? CRT HD Broadcast monitors are EXPENSIVE.

Right now, the cheapest solution for quality monitoring of HD is to use a solution like the he Matrox MXO with a Cinema Display:

Yeah a computer monitor. I think they cost about 300 or so.

It appears that the above suggestion, the Matrox MXO should work with most monitors that support a DVI connection, and can support HD resolutions (the product does seem to be Mac only, though). The Apple Cinema Display seems to be recommended because of the 59.94Hz refresh rate provides a better image quality (54.94 / 2 = 29.97). Also, the Cinema Displays are very color accurate, which many inexpensive monitors are not.

Computer CRT monitors WILL NOT WORK....not a replacement for an HD Color grading monitor at all.

However...Diffkid steers you right. The Matrox MXO combined with an Apple 23" Cinema Display, or the Dell 2405 will get you that broadcast image you are looking for. For under $2000. Darn cheap in the world of HD.

Thanks for the correction. On the system requirements section, I read....

"DVI preview monitor..."

and kinda glossed over:

"...that supports a native display resolution of 1920x1200"

I dare you to find a CRT that supports that..
