Can't install Security update 2018-002: error_7e7aee96ca

I ran into the very same issue. Here's what worked for me:
• Download and install the update manually from Download Security Update 2018-002 (High Sierra)
• Before rebooting, disconnect the Time Machine volume
Well I'll just sit by and wait then. No way I'll reinstall the os cleaned to get this in. Mojave is around the corner regardless so it's kind of pointless.
Yes. 😉
Quite interesting!
Well, it sort of worked. A couple of days later I got an update message for 2018-002 even though it was supposed already in 10.13.6. But this time it installed correctly.
So it hasn't improved yet? isn't .1 out? Christ... I am not touching it until I hear it's better.
Are you talking about Mojave? This is referring to the security update in High Sierra.
This update is for High Sierra. I and the OP tried Mojave without much luck.
I should add its a Mac Mini with two monitors.
Yeah it was a side track and mentioned a few times.
Same here on my Late 2013 Mac Pro. Froze it up on the restart. I did a safe boot, got nothing but messages that Mac OS could not be installed. Finally had to start up in Recovery mode and re-install High Sierra. Tried the security update again (2018-002), and locked up again.
Frustrating thing is Apple combined it with an Epson printer update and a pro formats update which I would like to install individually. And, interestingly enough, included is Safari 12.0.1, which was already installed. I'm now just 4 minutes shy of spending 3 hours on this.

I don't have the "error_7e7aee96ca" but everything else is exactly the same.
Out of 5 computers that installed it 5 had the same issue. Sometimes rebooting will get me back. Other times I have to boot in safe mode and scan and fix the disk. So far it's always worked.
