MBP won't sleep since Mojave update

Hi there,

I have a MBP 2017 and since the update to Mojave the MacBook won't enter sleep mode anymore when the lid is closed. The battery loses around 30% of charge over night.

$ pmset -g System-wide power settings:

Currently in use:

I can see activity over night, but i can't quiet figure out

What about System Pref > Energy Saver > Battery the option that says wake, which one do you see?

  • Wake for network access - Your Mac supports Wake on Demand over both Ethernet and AirPort
  • Wake for Ethernet network access - Your Mac supports Wake on Demand over Ethernet only
  • Wake for Wi-Fi network access - Your Mac supports Wake on Demand over AirPort only

(Only care about the 'Battery' section as 'Power Adapter' section only pertains to when device is connected to power)

And is it checked? or unchecked?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, pkissling!

I understand you're unable to get your MacBook Pro to sleep after you completed the update to macOS Mojave. I can understand how this may be concerning, especially when the battery is continuously draining. I'd be happy to provide information to help you out.

Use the following steps to configure your MacBook: Use the Energy Saver settings on your Mac
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Have a great day!

Patrick, you might want to try testing if another user account produces the same results.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac
If that other account doesn't have the same issue, there may be some software interfering on your current user account.
You can always reinstall macOS after backing up to try to resolve:
Back up your Mac with Time Machine
How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery
Hope this resolves it for you.

Hi Joseph,

thanks for the hint.

I created a new user (w/o admin rights) and logged in with the user.

The issue still persists. In the logs I can still see that the mDNSResponder prevents the OS from sleeping:

mDNSResponder is basically the Core of Bonjour services.. Bonjour is basically how Apple devices find each other on a network. This device could be trying to do multiple Sharing services overnight and we don't know it necessarily. Can you go to System Preferences > Sharing and tell me what you have check marked?

Thanks,
