Text Replacement stopped working after 12.1 update

My text replacement stopped working after the 12.1 update. I could still see my saved phrases in my keyboard settings. Any tips?

Looks like with iOS 12.1, text replacement has been limited to 128 characters.

This is really annoying and hopefully apple removes this character count soon, otherwise I will need to double or triple the number of shortcuts since some will require 3 or 4 shortcuts when i previously only needed 1 shortcut.

As someone else pointed out, the workaround currently is to break up your shortcuts into pieces no more than 128 characters long. So instead of aaa for 1 long phrase, you may need aaa + aaa1 + aaa2.. ..

Please fix soon Apple!!!

Just talked with support. Text replacement is a known bug for sure with version 12.1. A fix is being worked on. I wiped my phone and reset, and got it to work with smaller shortcuts, but it doesn't work with long paragraphs of words. I heard they have limit at 126 characters, which would suck. Contact Apple and make sure they know this is important to you!

Having spoken to two really sympathetic Apple Techs ( R...... and D..... ) they have both indicated that the problem lies with texts OVER 120 CHARACTERS..... this appears to be true for me, for sure. All the texts appear on my Text Replacement Lists ( Settings - GENERAL - KEYBOARD - TEXT REPLACEMENT) .... however when i attempt to use them, only the SHORT ones appear and work. All the long ones which have more than 120 characters, do NOT work.

For those of you that use TEXT replacement ( AUTO TEXT on blackberry), you will know what a disaster this upgrade of ios 12.1 has been :-(

I bought a £1000 phone, only to be faced with such a nightmare. I have over 500 Text replacement codes that i use on a daily basis and I am lost without them. I actually left Blackberry when they started to have problems with their software, only to be faced with continual issues with text replacement with Apple. Some of you will remember the issue with text replacement shortcuts that were disappearing on a previous version of ios - though this was EVENTUALLY sorted out by apple eventually.( 18 months to 2 years later !) .... I am praying that they sort it out quickly.

I don't know if this is related, but i also have an issue ( even with ios 11) with Text replacements not working properly when i send a SERIES of text messages in a row.... being in the rental property business, i can easily send off 7 long property details in a text message to client. When i did this i realised that there was a LAG in sending the messages and the text replacement would often NOT WORK - i would have to switch the phone off using the side button a couple of times and then it would work.... its as if there was a RAM or buffer issue ???

Lets hope that enough people highlight this issue so that Apple will prioritise it.

What a genius !!

How did you figure that one out ??? It does indeed work. The only problem is that The G board has some peculiar assets. Not all of my text replacements work but I have a feeling it’s because of something that I did which cannot be on done. I’m not exactly sure but there was a message that said "are you sure? As this cannot be undone"

In any event, at least I’m in a better position than I was though I’m a little concerned that my battery life is going to be diminished as a result of putting on this additional keyboard from Google - i’m praying that Apple will get this sorted out quickly. I mean, if you google can sort it, Apple certainly can. If that’s not enough incentive then I really don’t know where to go next :-(
