How to retrieve photos off a broken phone

I dropped my iPhone 6 in the pool and it’s unfixable, but I got a new iPhone and managed to get back into my original iCloud account. I even managed to sync my broken phone with my new phone, but I still can’t seem to retrieve all my old photos. How do I get the photos off my broken phone onto my new phone?

If your photos aren't in the iCloud or in an iTunes backup, your options are limited. However, see this:

Get help with missing photos

If no help, some people have reported success using a third-party data recovery service (do a Google search and use at your own risk).
