32-bit apps not running

Ever since upgrading to Majove 10.14.1 I'm unable to run any 32-bit apps. I've have tried many different ones and all that happens is that the icon bounces on the dock for a while then shows "Application not responding'.

As far as I can tell from my web searches, the apps should give a warning regarding being 32-bit but then run. None of mine do.

Is there a setting/parameter that I need to change? Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Thanks!

uninstall basecamp, and try then.

If the 32bit apps still don't run, uninstall VPN also.

Aside and not the cause: there are LaunchDaemons and Agents that should be removed: Wondershare (all "****" programmed apps), Paragon, Barebones. About Barebones textwrangler: no longer supported, instead use their BBedit (free version) app.

After much ruthless deleting of flagged files listed in the Etrecheck report the 32-bit apps (including Basecamp), my computer can now run 32-bit apps again. I did not delete them one at a time and then check, instead I deleted a handful each time before checking.

Yes, I did a TM backup before starting the radical surgery, as well as once I was finished. Ran a final Etrecheck report and all looks (and works) well now.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions and ideas!

I booted in Safe Mode and fired up Basecamp. It came up but with a message that an error had occurred and that it had disabled 3D mode and would use 2D mode only. After that it ran... albeit only in 2D mode with the 3D option greyed out in Preferences. Then I rebooted normally, tried starting Basecamp but got the same Application Not Responding after watching the Dock icon bounce for a while.

Nov 4, 2018 11:14 AM in response to ArminH

Along with dialabrain's note, it could also be that they are 32 bit. There was plenty of warning about this in High Sierra. When you ran a 32 bit app, a message would appear (the first time for that app, only), that it was not optimized for your Mac. An admittedly poor way to say it was 32 bit, and may not run in the future.

The OS after Mojave will be 64 bit only. No 32 bit app will run. Period.

Nov 4, 2018 11:28 AM in response to ArminH

Thanks for the reply! However...

I first noticed the problem when trying to run Garmin Basecamp. I then tried to run over a dozen other 32-bit apps and every single one fails to run. No warning that they are 32-bit and need to be upgraded... they just bounce and the give the 'Application not responding" message. In the case of Basecamp, I went to Garmin's support forum to find that others are getting the warning Kurt mentions (the first time it is run) but that Basecamp then ran. I downloaded the latest version of Basecamp (4.7.0) from the App Store, where under "Compatibility" it indicates that the app is compatible with my computer. I have a lot of dat in Basecamp that I'm somewhat desperate to recover/export before 32-bit apps are no longer supported. Could anyone suggest a 32-bit app that works for them under Mojave that I can try to run to see if this problem is unique to my computer?

Thanks!

Nov 4, 2018 2:07 PM in response to BobTheFisherman

Thanks, Bob.

I have removed and then reinstalled Basecamp but same result. I again tried a number of other 32-bit apps and also no luck. Yet, when I boot in safe mode, Basecamp and the other 32-bit apps run fine, except for Basecamp only running in 2D mode. I also tried logging in as Guest and no luck. I'll now set up a new user account, give it Admin rights and try again. Will update once I done.
