Migration Issues

I have a 2013 Macbook Pro Retina and am transferring all data to a newer 2016 Macbook Pro Retina.

I have an older USB external drive but apparently that does not work. I use Backblaze but not Time Machine.

I would like to go faster than Migration Assistant makes possible although if there is no other good option I will do it.

Is there a way to:

  • use the external USB drive?
  • use a backup service that will backup and transfer apps as well as other documents?
  • transfer the files directly?

Thanks for your help.

You could clone your old MacBook Pro, to the USB drive, if it's bigger (storage) than the internal MBP drive. It will need to be erased and formatted to work with the clone software. I have used Carbon Copy Cloner to do this a few times, as they have a free trial.
