Next week I get my new Macbook Air. I will be transferring everything from the old to the new using the migration assistant. My time capsule data is on an external drive. Why do the instructions have steps using the old Mac?

Ensure the "From another Mac, PC, Time Machine backup or other disk" option is selected and click "Continue." Enter your administrator password and choose the "From a Time Machine backup or other disk" option.

Thanks for the reply. From your response, I think I am having trouble with seeing the option "From TM BU or other disk". I get my new machine tomorrow (Tue). If I have any issues, I'll be back.

Migration Assistant asks if you want to transfer content from a Mac or a Time Machine backup. Select that option.
When given the option to select from a Mac or from a TM backup, is there a preference between the two options?
