Issues with MXL-770 Mic, Scarlett 2i2, and Garageband

I bought an MXL-770 Mic and I have tried plugging it into my Scarlett 2i2 and then plugging the Scarlett into my MacBook Pro (2015 version). I cannot get it to record anything, although I did get it to the point where I could see the sound bar moving when I tapped the mic. I am not sure what I am doing wrong because I have used the Scarlett with my guitar and it worked and the mic does not appear to be broken. I have messed around with all the buttons on both devices and have adjusted the input device on Garageband.

there are new security settings in the latest OS that prevent apps from using input devices; check the security settings in System Prefs and make sure that GB has permission to use your interface.
