Recents Folder - what is the logic?

The recents folder holds actual documents, not an alias. It also holds the history for many years. Since it does not work like recent files in other applications and it actually DELETES the documents if one accidentally clears it, I respectfully suggest that Apple use the resources to improve their dismal search/find capability or create aliases for the recent folder. At least have a security option that pops up and asks whether one wants to delete the documents. Clearly not much thought has gone into this dangerous option.
