How to properly shield USB-C adapter to minimize Bluetooth interference?
I have a 2016 Macbook Pro with Touch Bar. I also use the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and a pair of Bose QC35 Bluetooth headphones while I work. I have 3 external monitors connected to my laptop, which I use with the lid closed.
I have constant bluetooth issues. The mouse lags and skips and I can barely do calls using my Bose headphones due to audio distortions in both directions. The mouse will lag at the same time that audio is distorting on my headphones. I've since just started using the keyboard while connected to a lighting cable.
I've isolated the issue to be from the USB-C adapters I'm using for my external monitors/ethernet/USB-A. When I unplug them from my laptop, the issues stop entirely. I'm unsure as of yet if all 3 USB-C adapters are causing the problem, or just one or two, but the issue is definitely coming from at least one of them.
I've done lots of research on the topic and discovered that USB 3.0 and the USB-C hubs can be the cause of interference issues with both WiFi and Bluetooth, due to improper shielding. My own experience confirms this.
What can I actually do though? I need my three external monitors (spoiled, I know) as well as the full functionality of my Bluetooth devices.
Is there any way I can shield my 3 USB-C adapters myself, to reduce the interference?
Or are there better quality adapters that are certified to be shielded properly? I'm using off-brand USB-C adapters currently, and am willing to invest in 3 new brand name USB-C adapters if necessary, but don't want to end up in the same boat with a name brand adapter, if there isn't some sort of standard that gets followed in terms of cable shielding.
What are my options here?
