paste control characters?

I receive the following popup when copy/paste from information in the Terminal.app, when there are control characters in the buffer (\t, etc):

It's annoying. Enter key is not assigned to the 'Paste' button. I have to 'command+c, command-v, shift-command-enter'... or use the mouse to click 'Paste', in order to properly copy/paste now (three operations involving 7 keys).

Further more, the other Mojave machines in my lab do not exhibit this issue. So I am unsure as to why it only happens on this machine.

Googling for: mojave +"Paste control characters?" brings back one, single, result (about another person experiencing this with no solution). So... no help there.

Anyone have an idea as to suppress this popup?
