How do I remove bullets from text in Mail? Running on OS Mojave 10.14

Insert bulleted lists in an email in Mail is easy. Once created, though, it's murder to remove. I have tried selecting text and going Format/Indent/Decrease, but my "Decrease" option is greyed out and not available. This problem in not new as evidenced by the litany of posts on line for this problem. How is it, that after all these years, Apple still has not fixed this? Experiencing this currently with OS Mojave, but have had this problem for years with all previous OS versions.
