No Mail Accounts on Watch os 5.1.1

Just updated to Watch OS 5.1.1 last night, and since then, I've had an issue where going into the mail app gives me a screen saying "No Mail Account. Setup a new account on your iPhone." Just get a spinning icon next to the time like it's trying to do something/process/connect.

Of course, I have email accounts setup already, and it worked fine with OS 5.1. I've tried changing the Mirror iPhone setting in the Watch app to Custom and then back again (that seemed to work for some users with os 4), but no dice. I've restarted the watch twice. And, yes, the devices are on the same wifi network and connected by Bluetooth.

I'm guessing it's a bug with 5.1.1, but can't find any other comments about so far, so I figured I'd ask the community.

Any thoughts?

What worked for me was going into mail in the watch app on the iPhone and clearing then rechecking the “include mail” where you select what folders to show. I did this after restarting iPhone and watch.

I would try that before doing a restore.

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! From your post, I understand that you have recently updated to watchOS 5.1.1 and now are having trouble using the Mail app. When you open it, there is a message telling you to set up a Mail account on your iPhone, even though you have accounts already set up. I'm happy to help!

First, if you have not already, restart both your Apple Watch: How to restart your Apple Watch - Apple Support and its companion iPhone: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support .

If the issue continues after restarting, the next recommendation I have is to unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone: Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support , and then set it up again: Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support .

Thanks. It worked with a restore, luckily. It's a pretty annoying process - let's hope it doesn't happen again.

That's a great question, b dizzle fizzle!

You can set it up from your backup first. If the issue continues, though, unpair and set it up again, this time as a new device.

Thanks for the suggestion! Once I unchecked and then rechecked all the mail to include they loaded perfectly on my watch!

I would highly recommend trying this before restoring from a backup.

Thanks for that idea. It's working since I re-setup the watch, but I'll keep your tip in mind since that's way less of a pain in the butt to do if this happens again!
