According to the "official list" the XL2 is not included. However, FCPX is supposed to support "most cameras" using the HDV or DV format and use Firewire to transfer files. You may need a Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter and another adapter to bring the Firewire 400 cable up to Firewire 800 in order to connect to the Thunderbolt adapter.

Thank you for the expeditious reply to my question. I contacted Apple Support and discovered my Mac Pro doesn’t have the thunderbolt port. However, I can still transfer files at a speed of 400 using the normal in and out FireWire.
In short, yes.
As Fox indicates you must use firewire, iLink, IEEE 1394.
Some cables are not suitable for video transfer.
Don't cheap out on cables and adapters is a good rule of thumb.
