3 month old Mac Mini trying to install Mohave, the installer runs until I get to the disk selection and I get the error:

There are no firmware updates that I can find.

Mac mini, macOS Sierra (10.12.3)

I've been trying to download High Sierra (using a flashdrive w/ the update on it, 32GB) to a 2010 MacBook Pro in recovery. when i try to click the drive, it says that i can't install this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition, does anyone know how to fix this?

What fixed it for me was to boot into Safe Mode and install Mojave from there. Took about 4 hours to install, but it worked.
