Record your screen in QuickTime Player on Mac

I would like to do a screen recording on my MacBook Pro vs Mojave 10.14.1record a portion of a live camera view that's showing on my screen. Went to Mac support and also googled it and both said the same thing. In the QuickTime Player app on your Mac, choose File > New Screen Recording. Problem is my QT does not give me the option under the File menu to click on New Screen Recording. Can someone please help me with this? Why isn't that option there even when Apple support is giving me these instructions? My QuickTime version is 7.6.6.

MacBook Pro, macOS Mojave (10.14.1), (13-inch, Mid 2012)

Should I delete or uninstall this old version of QT I have?

They can happily co-exist, and have slightly different capabilities. If you never use it, then you can delete the application, if you want. (The is no uninstaller or proper way to remove the old style QuickTime framework outside the player application, as all of it was once part of Mac OS. Only a clean install of a new OS can get rid of it.)

Not even sure where it came from because it is not listed in Applications with the QT X.

You can find the v7 application in /Applications/Utilities/ . It would have come from a legacy upgrade path or a separate install.
