Apple watch won't control iPhone Audio

So I got some new BT headphones (Sony) and they pair with either my watch or my iPhone, but when I'm playing Music through the music app on my iPhone the watch doesn't show it (it says nothing is playing on the iPhone) and, of course, can't control it.

This is very odd since every other thing I pair (earpods, other BT speakers, my car BT system) allows the watch to control the audio. Any ideas on what's wrong here or how to fix it?

I originally installed the Sony apps but I figured they were the cause so I made sure I exited them. Perhaps I should completely uninstall them to be sure but I thought I'd ask here first to see if there were any other reasons the watch wouldn't be controlling what's played through the Music app on the phone.

Okay, here's the answer -- I uninstalled the Sony apps.

Specifically it seems like the Sony Headphones Music app is the culprit (I reinstalled the Sony Headphone Connect and am still able to control things through my watch). Even though I didn't have the Sony Music app running (I made sure I both exited it and that it was swiped out of the background) somehow it prevented the watch from seeing the headphones.

On a somewhat related note, I can now highly recommend the Sony MXH1000m3 phones. They are freakin' amazing, so much better than anything I've tried before (the last time I looked at BT headphones was 4 years ago, though -- but I tested 20 or so models back then and nothing can come close. I do understand the Bose Quietcomfort are also nice nowadays, although back then they didn't play well with my iPhone).
