iMac slow

Hey,

Can any FCPX user help me, please? Apple support is useless. I'll keep this brief...

User uploaded file

^^^ Here's my Mac. Latest FCPX too. However, for the last couple of years I've repeatedly run into the issue of FCPX grinding to a halt - scroll wheel every time I do anything in the timeline. This usually happens a couple of months after completely rebooting the system - fresh install of FCPX etc. I'm bored of doing this now.

I have the master FCPX file in my internal hard drive, including all the render files etc.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Should I be managing the files in a particular way to stop this from happening? Last time I called Apple they suggested it was a plug-in issue, which is nonsense.

Help! Thanks in advance, lovely people...

What is your system drive?

If it is a HD or a “Fusion” drive, then it is not the best option.

You’d be better served with a fast external drive. An SSD on a usb3 case will run circles around your HD.

That said, if you need to use your internal drive, make sure it has plenty of free space. It is probably best to use your original media instead of proxy or optimized. The latter are better for you cpu but tax your drive more.

And when there is something not working right delete preferences.
