2018 MacBook Air HD camera is in poor quality.

I just bought the new MacBook Air, noted that the HD camera is so blurry. The photo that captured using this MacBook turns out to be worse than my iPhone 7 front camera. Anyone facing the same problem?

Same here. I followed all the recommendations to fix it (trying different apps, users, utilities, etc), afterwards I called apple support and after 40min on the phone they told me that this specific computer was designed to have bad quality camera under non-natural light. They said it will only look good during day light and if I'm in a room with lots of natural light. Unbelievable! They said there's nothing they can do from their side to fix it because is not a software issue or a bug. Their only suggestion to "fix it" was that I only use the camera by day in a bright room, I'm speechless!

Unfortunately I can't return the computer because it has been a month since I bought it, but if you are still on time to return it I highly recommend to do so since apple doesn't have any solution and apparently they are not willing to do anything to compensate this fault.

Shame on apple! After 20 years of using mac I'm planning to leave it once and for all.

Hey everyone,

I got the 13" 2018 MBA yesterday, and have the same problem: horrible pixelation on the camera in every application that uses the camera, and is certainly nowhere near 720p... my flip phone in 2006 had better resolution.

I spoke to an Apple Advisor this morning and she said this a "known" issue, but they are not at the point of taking repairs for it yet. She suggested that I wait ~2 weeks to see if an update materializes because "these things usually work themselves out." Apple hasn't acknowledged it yet but at least she is saying this is on their radar. I think they are going to have a huge issue post-Christmas if they don't do something about it soon, and I hope they know that. I will simply return it if something doesn't change in that time period.

i don’t think that is the issue , it really performs differently under different lighting conditions. With typical non-studio light the image is very blurry/grainy. So neither party is misleading ... Apple states that it is per design and users complain about the condition under average lighting ..... it’s just a shame that this was not called out in a more explicit fashion with all the in-depth reviews. For some reason tech journalist do not consider this that critical

This is all about the sensor ... has nothing to do with HD ... sensor is just not as good as what we are used to with other devices and the lack of consistent lighting hurts this camera aggressively —- Apple is correct that it is not per design , the ads already indicate simulated images , just ha e to hope that they prioritize a new camera in the next refresh

Ruskes you continue making irrelevant arguments. There is nothing wrong with FaceTime app since it works perfectly and much better with an external camera.I tested myself.Logitech c920 hd cam.Picture is sharp like Apple claims with their integrated camera.

If the issue can not be resolved with a software update more than likely it's hardware.Camera sensor..etc since it works terribly in room light conditions.

We need to hear from Apple what they say.

Return it while you can! That’s what I did; I upgraded to the pro and ended up paying 500 more. I don’t think I needed such a powerful laptop but had no choice. And the pro’s FaceTime camera is not all that great in low light but it’s definitely better than the air. It’s a shame the cameras on these high end macs aren’t not as good as the iPhones ones
