2018 MacBook Air HD camera is in poor quality.

I just bought the new MacBook Air, noted that the HD camera is so blurry. The photo that captured using this MacBook turns out to be worse than my iPhone 7 front camera. Anyone facing the same problem?

We've tested our camera as suggested - but it was an issue right out of the box yesterday and it's still an issue - with any app, in new test user accounts, and the system profile recognizes the camera.

Apple needs to replace these cameras OR remove this image and this text from the website because it's blatantly false advertising.

Just to clarify, no member of this forum works for Apple.

Also, it might simply be a bug that will be fixed soon via a software update. I don't know if you remember, but the 2018 i9 MacBook Pros were experiencing thermal issues which were fixed 2 weeks after release. My i9 MBP was one of the affected so I definitely understand your concern.

I've been contacting Apple support for a few days regarding this issue now. Everyone at Apple is shocked at the quality deterioration from last generation of MacBooks. I've even compared the latest MacBook Air 2018 with MacBook Air 2012 and the latter is noticeably better in picture quality. I went to a few Apple Stores and all MacBook Airs are the same, and the MacBook 12"s are the same too (MacBook Pros are slightly better but do have similar grainy issues). I fear this is the situation for the last few years and it might be the case the Apple already knows the issue but continue to ship such cameras... I can't even return my MacBook Air to the retailer (not Apple Store) because it's not a 'technical fault' as all MacBooks are the same...

Shockingly disappointing...

My wife and I waited many months to see if a new updated air would be released. We got caught up in the hype and got the latest 2018 macbook air from Microcenter for $999. A large motivation for getting this laptop was for teaching over the web - so the 720 HD cam was a must. My wife claimed she looked at one in the store and it looked ok...

She picked it up and we had it literally for 10 minutes before we realized that the camera was a waste of effort. No firmware patch was going to fix this. I held up a 6 year old iPhone front facing camera (yes the worst quality of the two cameras!) next to it and it was such a contrast that it was unbelievable (in FaceTime app). Our iMac 2011 camera is a 720 HD and it is light-years ahead of this thing.

I searched online for a solution and they advised different light and all that usual 'saving face' support mumbo-jumbo waste of time stuff.

We had studio lighting set up and even then it was so bad that we just deleted the user setup, repacked it and took it back. No regrets.

Rise up people! Resist! If everyone took the 2018 macbook airs back - they will have to put a better camera in it!

Don't take this compromising mess from Apple! Make Apple Great Again!

I also made the mistake of purchasing the new MB Air. Worst webcam I've ever seen in a laptop within the past 10 years! Total junk. Software will not be able to fix this. I noticed that when you view the system report... its a UVC camera... not an Apple camera which I have in my 2015 MB Air. The 2015 has a much MUCH better quality camera. This is disappointing considering the price, and I will be returning it.

Hi,

I'm writing from Spain. A couple days ago i buyed a new Macbook Air 2018, and i have the same problem with the camera, this laptop has a poor camera, with a so poor quality and a lot of blurry. Do you know if the Macbook pro has the same issue, i was reading today that yes, but i don't know. What would you advise me?.. Should I return the device? Or maybe I should change it for another, maybe the Macbook pro.

You are the only ones who have reported this issue.

Do you think Apple will manage to fix it?

Regards
