I haven't seen this issue reported anywhere with the last release of Keynote, running in High Sierra or Mojave, none of our systems our our clients have this problem.

You have not provided the versions of both Keynote and Mac OS that are being used, so let us know what these are.

Try resetting Keynote as follows:

  1. ensure you have a current backup of all your user files saved to a separate drive
  2. restart the Mac with the shift key on the keyboard pressed down, release shift when the Apple icon appears (Apple Menu > Restart). Start up will take longer as the Mac is performing a software repair or the startup drive.
  3. ensure all applications are closed
  4. uninstall Keynote; for this procedure to work, an application removal tool must be used, App Delete is free and works for this procedure. It can be downloaded from the developer’s website here: App Delete
  5. empty the Trash
  6. restart the Mac normally: Apple Menu > Restart
  7. reinstall Keynote from the Mac App Store then test Keynote

Just to say that I have this problem too and have scheduled a support call from a Keynote expert on Monday morning. I am particularly experiencing this issue with the first animation of text on a page. It's not the usual smooth entry, but hesitates then suddenly just appears. It's very frustrating! Hopefully I'll get some answers on Monday. I'm having the same problem with both my late-2015 27" retina iMac and my slightly older 15" MacBook Pro.

Thanks for this advice. Apple have actually taken me through these steps including a full wipe of the Mac. I am using the latest OS Mohave, but the issue started on High Sierra. The only thing you are suggesting that’s different was the APP removal process. We literally moved Keynote to trash and then emptied trash before reinstalling it. But later in the process we wiped the machine so I guess this is quite sufficient? I could try this while I am waiting for the engineer to come back following the other tests we performed. Thank you. Depends on what you mean by "wipe", if you used the Erase function in Disc Utility with Mac OS Recovery procedure shown here: Mac OS Recovery then that would be OK, any other procedure would not be sufficient to remove all existing files from the drive properly. If you did not use this procedure, consult the Apple webpage mentioned and perform all the steps listed.
