IPad double spacing in FaceBook posts

I had this problem once before and I don’t remember how it was corrected. I am thinking I caused it by hitting too many keys on the touch screen all at once. While in FaceBook, commenting on a post, as I type I get 2 spaces between words. This only happens in FaceBook, and only in posts. It is also limited to my IPads not my Android, and not on FaceBook mobile. It is not IOS specific or IPad specific. It does not matter which IPad I use, when signed in under my name it happens, under another name it does not happen. This leads me to believe it is a FaceBook/IPad setting issue. If I remember correctly I found a post that told me to press 2 keys and it fixed it. I don’t remember the keys or the post. Any helpful answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just bought a new Ipad(2018 version) and this has been happening since day 1. I just read a reply on here where someone said a Dutch keyboard was installed, he removed it and it fixed the issue. I didn’t have a Dutch keyboard installed, just QWERTY. There was an option for a Qwertz keyboard. I’d never heard of it but I switched to it and it fixed the FB problem! The only difference on the keyboard is the Y key is now where the Z Key was and Z is n the top row where Y was, hence the name QWERTZ. Might take me a bit to get used to my Y bent moved, but when I hit the z because I’m used to QWERTY keyboards, it autocorrects👌. I hope this helps someone because my FB posts looked awful.

I fully understand your problem and also to the people here. First of all, if you have a keyboard, check to make sure you trust that it has no damage around the space bar. It could be holding the spring down making it think to double click space. If it is fine, go to your settings and make sure Key Repeats are off. Also, check to make sure that it says to not be predictive on your language. If your iPad is inserting a period, you can go to hardware keyboards and turn off Shortcut “.” If this doesn’t work to, hope that your iPad still has warranty and so does your keyboard.

Yes, I know about this, but Facebook is not the only one having that issue, it is also in many other apps, such as the safari search bar, Google Docs, you name it! It might be an issue with Apple iPad Bluetooth keyboard compatibility.

I have a solution to double-spacing. Apparently, Bluetooth keyboards aren’t very good. The response time isn’t too good because of the signals that bluetooth keyboard use to communicate letters to iPads. (It’s also dependent on the battery level on a keyboard.) If I’m wrong, then Apple should use analytics to report these sort of problems.

I agree with Tom, it is a Facebook issue BUT it’s also an iPad issue because the double spacing doesn’t happen anywhere else except on an iPad using an internet browser. Sadly Apple doesn’t monitor these forums so a fix is not likely, at least not until a new version of iOS is released or until Facebook revised coding on their end.

Very true. I tried the app years ago and stopped once I realized just how little control you get with the app.

I use Safari to have a measure of control and know that Facebook’s customer response rate, well just like you said, right above ‘don’t give a darn’ and right below ‘couldn’t care less’.

At it’s most basic, all Facebook cares about is people giving it information that they can sell, people friending so they can use that network to spread ads and making money. They don’t care about a user any more than an exterminator cares about a bug they see on the floor.

Facebook does have a feedback link in their site if users want to try to do something they need to use that link to inform facebook there is an issue, or pile on the numbers to show them that it’s widespread. Beyond that....adapt, adjust or move on.

Apple cannot and will not do anything. In Apple’s world its users adjust to fit Apple’s infrastructure and they will not recode safari to accommodate a single site (not to mention that would risk compatibility with the other untold millions of sites people use)

Facebook’s page is broken, they need to fix it.

I very much doubt it's an ios problem because it happened to me back when i was using ios 10 and someone told me that upgrading to ios 12 would fix it, so i updated to recent version and problem persisted. If it were an ios issue this should be the case, because prior to updating to ios 12, i was using ios 10 for a long time and this double space problem just randomly started one day, so if it were an ios issue this shouldn't of happened.

Thanks Rolo, not two seconds after I posted I noticed somebody else in the thread had used on screen keyboard too. So this is what looks like based on instances in this thread. Let me know if there's a scenario I'm missing here.

  • Multiple recent iOS variants including betas.
  • iPads and iPad Pros
  • Safari and Chrome and Dolphin via http://facebook.com
  • Facebook posters and those viewing the affected posts
  • Inconsistent behaviors and appearance but mostly (double) space and formatting weirdness. Sometimes repeated words or faulty autocorrect (keeps mistyped word or characters and adds redundant correctly spelled version)
  • Posts can look correct at client end and appear wrong to others, but also wonky while typing.
  • Does not happen in Facebook app - or non-iPad (laptop, desktop) browser scenarios.
  • Messing with Keyboard settings affects but doesn't necessarily or permanently fix issue
  • Happens with on screen keyboard, Bluetooth and smart cover keyboards.
  • Behavior affecting significant numbers of folks since at least November last year?
  • App not an ideal option for some people because of feature set and formatting differences.
  • Reinstalling browsers or clearing cache/data/cookies makes no difference.
  • Reinstalling (first party) keyboard and keyboard components doesn't fix.
  • Recovering iPad from scratch doesn't fix.

Well Stinkles, for what it’s worth, I am using an ipad pro.

That’s certainly a lot of points you have there. I really wouldn’t like to say whether there’s a scenario you’re missing, or if all your points are correct, sorry; it’s all getting a bit too complicated.

I can only add that I don’t want to use the app. I’ve never liked it. I find it cumbersome, tiresome, difficult / impossible to use, and extremely user-UNfriendly.

I also have no solution for the problem of multiple spaces appearing, which is extremely irritating.

I am looking for a rival (anti)social media platform to use instead of Farcebook.

Good luck!

As stated multiple times. it has to do with how Facebook is coding their page. THere’s nothing apple can do, or will do honestly.

Facebook needs to fix their page.

Going by past experiences, don’t hold your breath.

If safari is the only browser with the issue, then find another browser. Given that people are not having the issues on other sites, it’s not safari that’s flawed, which is another reason Apple will do nothing.

I would say that NO, it's 99.999999% likely that nothing is being done about this as it seems to be a Facebook code problem for their webpage on an ipad browser, and since Facebook has not seen and does not monitor this thread, it's not being corrected. Until they correct something it's going to keep happening. I've stopped using my iPad and only use my iPhone now, as it's just to **** annoying to deal with.
