IPad double spacing in FaceBook posts

I had this problem once before and I don’t remember how it was corrected. I am thinking I caused it by hitting too many keys on the touch screen all at once. While in FaceBook, commenting on a post, as I type I get 2 spaces between words. This only happens in FaceBook, and only in posts. It is also limited to my IPads not my Android, and not on FaceBook mobile. It is not IOS specific or IPad specific. It does not matter which IPad I use, when signed in under my name it happens, under another name it does not happen. This leads me to believe it is a FaceBook/IPad setting issue. If I remember correctly I found a post that told me to press 2 keys and it fixed it. I don’t remember the keys or the post. Any helpful answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm afraid I don't have a solution, but I had this same before, and it just came back for me within the past 24 hours. But then, for some reason, my iPad has always had issues with Facebook, and this issue seems exclusive to iPads interacting with Facebook, as I do not have this issue with any other device(android, PC), or any other website on my iPad.

I'm having the SAME problem and getting double spaces when typing comments on Facebook using my ipad. I'm not using the ios app, I'm using Chrome and going to www.facebook.com. The problem just started here within the last month or so and i hate it. I don't experience this problem on any other website or using any other app on my ipad, only facebook.com and it happens on both chrome and safari, so it has to be an ipad issue? It's not my Clamcase keyboard because I'm using it to type this reply and I'm having no problems, and i don't have problems at any other time, only with facebook.com

I too have this issue on Facebook only and it’s getting worse now it keeps typing words twice, it won’t use apostrophes in words, it always types double spacing and often won’t let me post a comment.

I’m hoping someone has some suggestion, I’ve tried logging out and back in.

Just appears to be a Facebook issue - please can anyone help????

This double spacing on Facebook began for me immediately after installing the 12.0 update. I too only have the problem with Facebook and my iPad on both Safari and Chrome browsers. It’s quite frustrating. I also have the apostrophe issue (which unlike the double spacing isn’t exclusive to Facebook) ie it always changes the word “were” to “we’re”, anytime I type a plural it inserts an apostrophe before the “s”.

I’ve taken to typing my posts/comments on my iPad notepad then copy/pasting to Facebook. That’s a lot easier than hitting backspace after the space bar between each word and removing all the incorrect apostrophes. Either way, it’s an inconvenient pain and it’d be nice if it was fixed.

Thanks Rolo, not two seconds after I posted I noticed somebody else in the thread had used on screen keyboard too. So this is what looks like based on instances in this thread. Let me know if there's a scenario I'm missing here.

  • Multiple recent iOS variants including betas.
  • iPads and iPad Pros
  • Safari and Chrome and Dolphin via http://facebook.com
  • Facebook posters and those viewing the affected posts
  • Inconsistent behaviors and appearance but mostly (double) space and formatting weirdness. Sometimes repeated words or faulty autocorrect (keeps mistyped word or characters and adds redundant correctly spelled version)
  • Posts can look correct at client end and appear wrong to others, but also wonky while typing.
  • Does not happen in Facebook app - or non-iPad (laptop, desktop) browser scenarios.
  • Messing with Keyboard settings affects but doesn't necessarily or permanently fix issue
  • Happens with on screen keyboard, Bluetooth and smart cover keyboards.
  • Behavior affecting significant numbers of folks since at least November last year?
  • App not an ideal option for some people because of feature set and formatting differences.
  • Reinstalling browsers or clearing cache/data/cookies makes no difference.
  • Reinstalling (first party) keyboard and keyboard components doesn't fix.
  • Recovering iPad from scratch doesn't fix.

I’ve had this problem with the double-spacing in FB posts for last 2-3 months. Googled problem, found this forum, and saw in one of the answers that clearing cookies in Safari works. I searched for instructions on how to do it and found this, and it works :-)

  1. To clear your cookies and keep your history, go to Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data, then tap Remove All Website Data.

I have experienced this issue for some time and been searching for a fix without success.

Last night, I think I found one. At least, it worked for me. I would be keen to learn whether it works for anyone else.

I found the solution to be simply changing the language. Not in the device, in the browser on the Facebook web page. I can't say whether it works in the app, as I don't have that installed.

I was in English (US). Switched to English (UK), and the fix was instant.

I then went back and switched back to English (US), and the fix held. I believe there may have been some language caching which was flushed when I toggled the language. If this is the case, it may be a fix we can all use. Give it a try, let me know!

To try, go to the disclosure triangle at top right, choose Settings > Language and Region. Select another language. It's that simple, and that quick. Well, it was for me...

The same thing is happening to me. I had other issues too, like the wrong auto-correcting, doubled words (like iI someone else mentioned), plus a few more. When the issues spread to the Notes app, I started to really worry. Eventually, I figured out that I had accidentally enabled the Dutch keyboard, which apparently does all sorts of exciting things. Even after I solved those problems, the double-spacing issue on Facebook is persisting, along with not auto-correcting any contractions. So far, I haven't had the same issues with Chrome, but I've barely used Chrome, so it may be just a matter of time.

Same thing here, but only when typing replies in Chrome for iPad. The pessimist in me speculates FB is intentionally effing with the UI to drive users off of browsers and onto the app, from where they can get much greater access to your data.

They’ve done this sort of thing before, intentionally altering the user experience for a select set of users and analyzing the results as a social engineering experiment, and without user knowledge or acceptance (except the licensing agreement no one reads). I think the 500 of us with this issue are unwitting lab rats.

They’ve also hidden the header icons in Chrome for iPhone when I’m outside the news feed. To go anywhere, like view my notifications or groups, I have to back my browser up to the FB home page. Can you say Evil Corp?
