IPad double spacing in FaceBook posts

I had this problem once before and I don’t remember how it was corrected. I am thinking I caused it by hitting too many keys on the touch screen all at once. While in FaceBook, commenting on a post, as I type I get 2 spaces between words. This only happens in FaceBook, and only in posts. It is also limited to my IPads not my Android, and not on FaceBook mobile. It is not IOS specific or IPad specific. It does not matter which IPad I use, when signed in under my name it happens, under another name it does not happen. This leads me to believe it is a FaceBook/IPad setting issue. If I remember correctly I found a post that told me to press 2 keys and it fixed it. I don’t remember the keys or the post. Any helpful answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm afraid I don't have a solution, but I had this same before, and it just came back for me within the past 24 hours. But then, for some reason, my iPad has always had issues with Facebook, and this issue seems exclusive to iPads interacting with Facebook, as I do not have this issue with any other device(android, PC), or any other website on my iPad.

Oh my gosh I’ve been having problems with my Facebook on safari for five or six years now. It started with my iPad 2 so I upgraded to an iPad air 2. I assumed it was just all the different iOS updates and I thought eventually it would correct the problems. Mine started with my keyboard locking up and not being able to backspace to correct words. Gradually it just got worse. I went to the Apple store multiple times and they were of no help sadly. So for three more years I’ve been dealing with my iPad air 2 and thought it was just a glitch somewhere. Two weeks ago I bought the iPad Pro 11 inch and the problem carried over. Spent 3 1/2 hours yesterday at the Apple store and no one could figure out the problem. When I mentioned that I had not been able to find anyone else with the problem they did a Google and came up with this forum. How come I never found this before? Since the update to iOS 12.1.1 now I have been getting the double spacing and it also auto corrects and leaves incorrect words behind so I’m constantly having to fix everything I type. Auto punctuation isn’t working either most times. So they told me that I should use Chrome or Firefox but when they tried those browsers the same issues happen there as well. Bottom line they say it is Facebook not playing nice with Safari. Oh and they said I should use the Facebook app. I hate the Facebook app doesn’t work well when you run multiple groups. It’s not user-friendly in my opinion. And how come not everyone has this problem?

This may or may not help you, but in case it does: I had the same thing happening and it was driving me up the wall. I found out by accident that a Dutch language keyboard layout had been installed at some point. Whether I did that or it the iPad did it by itself, I don't know. But as soon as I removed the Dutch keyboard, everything started working again. The weird autocorrects, inability to backspace, double words, etc were gone. It still double spaces on Facebook though.

I agree with Tom, it is a Facebook issue BUT it’s also an iPad issue because the double spacing doesn’t happen anywhere else except on an iPad using an internet browser. Sadly Apple doesn’t monitor these forums so a fix is not likely, at least not until a new version of iOS is released or until Facebook revised coding on their end.

UPDATE: I was typing a reply to a post on Facebook tonight and was experiencing the double spacing issue, but i’m SO sick of fixing it as i type that i just said screw it, i’m just going to leave it as is and post it with the spaces, so i hit enter and posted my message that was showing the double spaces. To my SUPRISE, the message posted 100% fine and didn’t have any extra spaces in it....i was and am shocked. SO, it appears that this double space glitch is just that, an on-screen glitch that makes it appear as if there are extra spaces, but once you post the message you’ve typed, the extra spaces are NOT there. I’m just going to ignore the extras spaces and keep posting to see if i can repeat this result over and over again.

Still happening to me. Looks fine as I type about 50% of the time, but always shows up wrong to everyone else. Only happens on Safari — iPad Pro 12 inch — Facebook.com and as others have noted, what’s the point of posting on these forums? Apple doesn’t care and I’m only happy that we didn’t get accused of making it up or causing it ourselves by the Apple brigaders who seem to delight in crapping up help requests.

It’s still happening and I suspect it’s Facebook scripting mishandling the browser, probably making some assumptions about Safari OSX or maybe different tablet formats. OS version 12.1.1 and it’s been happening for a while. I’ve tried reinstalling Safari as well as nuking cookies.

I just tried turning of Smart Punctuation and it did NOT work for me. I still have the on screen double spacing problem using Facebook on Chrome. As i stated earlier however, on my iPad at least, it appears to be an on screen glitch because if i ignore it and post the message that appears to have double spaces, once posted to FB it appears normally.
