IPad double spacing in FaceBook posts

I had this problem once before and I don’t remember how it was corrected. I am thinking I caused it by hitting too many keys on the touch screen all at once. While in FaceBook, commenting on a post, as I type I get 2 spaces between words. This only happens in FaceBook, and only in posts. It is also limited to my IPads not my Android, and not on FaceBook mobile. It is not IOS specific or IPad specific. It does not matter which IPad I use, when signed in under my name it happens, under another name it does not happen. This leads me to believe it is a FaceBook/IPad setting issue. If I remember correctly I found a post that told me to press 2 keys and it fixed it. I don’t remember the keys or the post. Any helpful answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just bought a new Ipad(2018 version) and this has been happening since day 1. I just read a reply on here where someone said a Dutch keyboard was installed, he removed it and it fixed the issue. I didn’t have a Dutch keyboard installed, just QWERTY. There was an option for a Qwertz keyboard. I’d never heard of it but I switched to it and it fixed the FB problem! The only difference on the keyboard is the Y key is now where the Z Key was and Z is n the top row where Y was, hence the name QWERTZ. Might take me a bit to get used to my Y bent moved, but when I hit the z because I’m used to QWERTY keyboards, it autocorrects👌. I hope this helps someone because my FB posts looked awful.

I have experienced this issue for some time and been searching for a fix without success.

Last night, I think I found one. At least, it worked for me. I would be keen to learn whether it works for anyone else.

I found the solution to be simply changing the language. Not in the device, in the browser on the Facebook web page. I can't say whether it works in the app, as I don't have that installed.

I was in English (US). Switched to English (UK), and the fix was instant.

I then went back and switched back to English (US), and the fix held. I believe there may have been some language caching which was flushed when I toggled the language. If this is the case, it may be a fix we can all use. Give it a try, let me know!

To try, go to the disclosure triangle at top right, choose Settings > Language and Region. Select another language. It's that simple, and that quick. Well, it was for me...

UPDATE: I was typing a reply to a post on Facebook tonight and was experiencing the double spacing issue, but i’m SO sick of fixing it as i type that i just said screw it, i’m just going to leave it as is and post it with the spaces, so i hit enter and posted my message that was showing the double spaces. To my SUPRISE, the message posted 100% fine and didn’t have any extra spaces in it....i was and am shocked. SO, it appears that this double space glitch is just that, an on-screen glitch that makes it appear as if there are extra spaces, but once you post the message you’ve typed, the extra spaces are NOT there. I’m just going to ignore the extras spaces and keep posting to see if i can repeat this result over and over again.

I’ve been doing some testing on this issue lately & have found that using a 3rd party keyboard from the App Store helps resolve the double spacing issue. Although it doesn’t totally stop the issue occurring it does resolve the spacing problem like 95% of the time.

I've tested several keyboards & have been using Gboard - A Google Keyboard that's free in the app store.

Once installed you can add the Gboard keyboard in settings & it's been working almost perfect on Facebook (& can easily + quickly change to IOS keyboard when using other sites/apps if you don't like using Gboard or whatever 3rd party keyboard).

It's not the perfect solution but it's a lot better then using the stock IOS keyboard.
