Splitting cells in Pages Table with additional lines

Hello, I've recently converted from Word to Pages. Using the pen tool Word allowed you to draw additional lines inside and across cells within a table. How can you do this in Pages? I have a 4 column table with 15 lines and I need to split columns 3 and 4 only into additional rows. I've found the line drawing tool and I've managed to draw one line but I can't get it to stay where I want it when I move onto the next line - and I can't keep the 'wrap' menu on view in the side panel to correct it every time it jumps back outside the table. Help please! Thanks.

Hi Raffles,

In Pages, the pen tool inserts an object that is independent of the table. The object (just like a Line Shape) can be made to "float" above the table, but I don't think that is what you want.

I am not sure what you want to do

I have a 4 column table with 15 lines and I need to split columns 3 and 4 only into additional rows.

There is no Split Cells feature in any version of Pages since Pages '09 (Pages 4.3).

You can Merge pairs of cells in columns A and B to mimic "Split" in columns C and D like this:

BTW, 15 rows is an odd number and can not repeat the Merge 😉.

This is an interesting challenge. Please reply with your overall aim.

Ian.

Hi Raffles,

Tested in Pages 7.2 on a MacBook Pro running macOS High Sierra.

Select cells in a Pages table, Column A:

User uploaded file

Menu > Format > Table > Merge Cells

User uploaded file

User uploaded file

With those merged cells selected, Menu > Edit > Copy.

Select the corresponding cells in Column B:

User uploaded file

Menu > Edit > Paste

User uploaded file

The Copy and Paste areas must match.

Perhaps there is an automatic way to fill a pattern down. Let's hope that another user will call by.

Regards,

Ian.
