Apple Pencil not responding

I was using the Apple Pencil, put it down and came back an hour later to resume and the pencil will not respond.

the battery is charged at 100%, I have closed and rebooted the iPad, I have changed the Nib on the pencil, I have in paired and re_pair a couple of times and it still will not respond.


apple pencil shows in my notifications and shows as connected in Bluetooth settings, but it will not respond when I try to use.


i have an iPad Pro 12.9” 2nd generation.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand your Apple Pencil is not responding to your iPad Pro. You didn't mention in your comments above if you have updated your iPad to the most recent iOS. If you have not done so already, I would suggest unpairing the Apple Pencil, updating the iOS, restarting the iPad and pairing the Apple Pencil again.
Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you have updated to iOS 12.1, then follow the steps below to forget the device, restart the iPad and pair again.
Use Apple Pencil with your iPad or iPad Pro​

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.
  2. On the same screen, look under My Devices for your Apple Pencil. If you see it, tap User uploaded file. Then tap Forget this Device.
  3. Connect your Apple Pencil in to your iPad and tap the Pair button when it appears after a few seconds.
