iOS 12 ruined my iPhone 7 plus

So, up until iOS 12 was released, my iPhone 7 plus was running perfectly on iOS 10.3.3. I decided not to update to iOS 11 because I knew there were going to be some speed bumps, and I didn't feel the need to deal with it. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, for whatever reason i thought it was a good idea to update to iOS 12. Since then, my iPhone has been experiencing a whole laundry list of issues.

-Software does not recognize microphone, says "No audio device found", across multiple native and third party apps (voice memo, camera, snapchat, guitartuna, etc)

-Video/Photo capturing ability hindered severely. Most times a photo or video does not capture, and the app crashes. This includes the camera app, instagram, snapchat, etc.

-Home button haptic feedback drops out at random. Requires reboot to get it back.

-Bluetooth audio with EarPods is terrible. Connection issues when taking it out of the case, frequent audio dropout, audio degradation.

-When rebooting my phone (complete power off, wait 60 seconds, power on) it takes more than 5 minutes to get past the boot screen to the lock screen.

What I have done to troubleshoot:

-Updated to latest version of iOS 12 (12.1)

-Reset all Settings

-Factory Data Reset (with restoring from backup)

-Factory Data Reset (set up as new)

The issues still persist. This is very disappointing. I am currently in a location overseas as well and do not have cellular service. This would be an even bigger issue if I have to use my phone as a phone...

Hello ayeewes,

Thank you, we appreciate the follow-up.

It sounds like you're not expecting cellular coverage where you are. Since you restored your iPhone and set it up as new already, your best step is to Contact Apple Support for further assistance with the issues you described. Restoring as new helps to rule out issues with the software and Apple will be in the best position to assist with next steps.

Warm regards.

Hi ayeewes,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you're running into a few issues on your iPhone 7 Plus.

If you've restored your iPhone, set it up as new, and found all of the issues you mention persist, that helps to rule out a number of possible causes. However, it sounds like you may be seeing a "No Service" alert on your device as well; is that right?

If so, these steps may help If you see No Service or Searching on your iPhone or iPad :

Check your coverage area

Make sure that you're in an area with cellular network coverage. Then follow these steps:

  • To turn cellular data on or off, go to Settings, then tap Cellular or Mobile Data. If you're using your iPad, you might see Settings > Cellular Data.
  • If you're traveling internationally, make sure that your device is set up for data roaming. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Data Roaming.

Check for a Carrier Settings update

To manually check for and install a carrier settings update:

  1. Make sure that your device is connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network.
  2. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you'll see an option to update your carrier settings.
  3. To see the version of carrier settings on your device, tap Settings > General > About and look next to Carrier.

If you insert a new SIM card into your iPhone or iPad, you need to download the carrier settings for your new carrier.

Take out the SIM card and put it back in

If the SIM card is damaged, or doesn't fit in the SIM tray, contact your carrier. Learn more about removing your SIM card.

Contact your carrier

Issues with your carrier or account might affect your service. Contact your carrier to:

  • Verify that your account is active and in good standing.
  • Make sure there are no outages in your area.
  • Check that your device isn't blocked from receiving cellular services and is set up with the right data plan.

Only your wireless carrier can access and manage details about your account. If you need help finding your wireless carrier's service page, use the Apple carrier-support article or an online search engine.

These steps may help with the "No Service" issue. Regarding the other issues you mentioned, since they persist after restoring, I recommend getting in touch with Apple directly for further assistance. You can use this link to Contact Apple Support .

I hope this is helpful.

Take care.
