What is iCloud preference password?

See this old thread iCloud password for preferences

In between steps it prompts to enter admin password .

But the iCloud preferences password is always an Apple ID password , because when you open system preferences - click on iCloud again click on account information it will prompt to enter Apple ID and password , without filling up the details it will not open .
