Mac Mini (2018) has problems with Logic Pro X

Just got the new Mac Mini 2018 (6-core, 8gb model).

My Logic Pro X projects run very instable. Crackling audio, error messages, weird sample rate warnings. Only solution seems to be cranking the buffer size up to 1024.

The projects ran much smoother on my 2014 MPB (2,5Ghz i7).

I've tried running the audio through the internal audio device, through my UA Apollo Duo, and M-Audio 2x2M, but the problem persists. I also tried resetting PRAM.

Anyone had a similar experience or have any suggestions?

Yes! I forgot the most obvious. Some 3rd party plug ins create clicks/audio drop outs when you upgrade your OS or change part of your system but don't re-authorize your plug. They do it as a way to disable your project, but don't tell you that. (If I remember correctly, I went through similar frustrations that I once attributed to my audio interface because I thought I'd ruled everything else out, but it turns out IZOTOPE products - Ozone, Neutron, Nectar etc - can sometimes need re-authorization or you'll suffer the same problems you're going though.)

Check your plug ins to ensure they're all properly authorized and let us know.

I'd look through the threads below and see if any of it sounds familiar....

There seems to be a larger issue that has to do with all T2 chip machines, regardless of model.

iMac Pro users have had audio issues for a year now, (interface is totally irrelevant). And, 2018 MacBook Pro users have had audio problems with both the built-in hardware and external audio interfaces. (Again, internal or external is irrelevant.)

Instead, the issue seems to be related to a universal bridgeOS problem affecting all T2 machines.

The consensus so far, (OUTSIDE of Apple), is that the chips may not necessarily have issues so much as Apple have not addressed bridgeOS issues that will continue to affect all T2 machines until they take the issue seriously.

No, not yet.

My 2014 MBP still runs logic much smoother with way less system overload messages.

Sometimes I can get the Mac mini to run smoothly for an hour or so with the buffer size set to 1024. Then for no apparent reason, the system overload warnings come back. Changing the buffer size down to 128 - oddly enough - can then resolve the problem for at few minutes.

I just got rid of my brand new 2018 mac mini! Something was really wrong with this mac! Apparently they rushed it out to meet the release date!

It is not, by any means, a professional machine and therefore not suitable for professional work!

I took my losses (about 600€) and traded it in for a mac book pro 15", i7, 512GB monster! Now I'm back into business!

Shame on you Apple! Steve Jobs would have never allowed such poor products to see the light of day!

>• It's not possible to split a single thread across multiple cores, although a single core may run multiple threads at the same time.

A single channel strip can only use one core, that means the instrument and all effects on that track can only use a single CPU core. However, several channel strips can use a single core.

  • Multithreading pop-up menu: Determines whether multithreading is set for playback tracks only, or for playback and live tracks.

The Playback & Live Tracks setting distributes the load to different threads in cases where a Track Stack that contains multiple software instrument channel strips is selected, or when more than one audio track is recording. If the computer has enough cores and there are no other existing DSP demands on the computer, each live channel strip can be processed by a different core.  The Playback & Live Tracks option might place slightly more overall load on the system, so if you don’t have any high demand live tracks, Playback Tracks might be the better choice.
