The web Top10BestAntiVirus.com lists several anti-virus programs, some free, some not. I was thinking of installing TopAV for Mac (2018), free, which guards against malware and spyware, in addition to viruses. Is this something I should install?

Your Mac comes with Apple's XProtect technology, which is all you need to "guard against malware and spyware." If you feel so strongly that you should use a third party product in addition to it, go with MalwareBytes.

I haven't used AV software on my computer since the release of the original Mac OS X. It's just not necessary.
