How to draw in pitch bend automation with a MIDI controller's mod wheel?

I have a piano track with some chords already laid down, and I'm trying to write in pitch bend automation with the mod wheel on my MIDI controller (Akai MPK mini mkII). I have Region automation on and Touch mode selected on my track, but when I press play and move the mod wheel, nothing get's written in. I can hear the pitch being changed, so I know the mod wheel is working, but nothing happens with the automation.
