How do I turn off effects on a classic iPhone 5?

I love the form factor of my classic iPhone 5.

When I want to use a computer, I resort to my trusty Windows PC and its classic keyboard.

I have my phone in an Otterbox Defender and holster and it is worth the added weight. It is still small enough for a pocket or mostly the belt holster unlike today's monster phones.

The screen protector makes 'touch' in some apps 'touch-and-go' so I use a stylus and press enough to see that I've entered a character in a message, for example. Using that technique in Messaging to Send sends me 'over the top.' It is not intuitive how to get back out of the bubbles and balloons mode. I never want to use it.

I looked for 3D to turn off under General>Accessibility>3D but it is not there. I gather that came with later iPhone models.

Is there a way to disable this 'feature' I do not want?

thanks

BTW - I had this composed and saw that my "Product" information at the bottom of this screen said I was running IOS 8.4. I figured out how to change it only to discover that when I returned to Discussions my message draft was gone. Message to me, compose in Word and copy and paste here to maintain control.

Hello Moon J

IOS 12 does not run on a classic iPhone 5.

The last applicable IOS is 10.3.3.

I have that installed and running.

Is there a way for me to shut down message effects on this device?

I have no interest in a larger form factor than the 4" diagonal measure of the iPhone 5, so I will struggle to keep it running until someone at Apple or in the Android world gets the message that there is a committed base who want to use a phone as a phone, who appreciate a decent quality camera, and who seldom use the device for texting, mail, and web searching.

Please pass word up in the Apple world that 'bigger is not always better' despite what some people say or imply.

Hi baumgrenze,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand you'd like to know if you can disable message effects on your iPhone. I can see why you'd reach out for this information; I'm happy to help. At this point it is not a feature of iOS 12 to be able to disable these effects. You can let Apple know what you'd like to see in the future by providing feedback here: Product Feedback

Best Regards.
