OS update breaks Mac

After installing an update in Mojave OS my MacBook Pro gets stuck in the update. Rebooting the machine allows me to go to the login screen and enter my credentials but I get the spinning wheel and can‘t go to the desktop. i talked to support the first time and we installed a new OS. After that the machine work but now I’m getting the notification for the update again and I’m afraid that installing the update would force to having to clean the hard drive again and reinstall Mojave’s and restore from time machine. Should I take my laptop to the Genius Bar so they can see it?

MacBook Pro, version 10.12.6

Hopefully not ..

A Safe Mode boot deletes system caches that can help after a macOS update or upgrade.

To start up in safe mode:

  1. Start or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The Apple logo appears on your display. If you don't see the Apple logo, learn what to do.
  2. Release the Shift key when you see the login window. If your startup disk is encrypted with FileVault.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac without pressing any keys during startup.
