can't send mail after high sierra upgrade

Hi

I recently upgraded 4 iMacs and 2 MacBook airs in my home/business setting from yosemite to high sierra. All went well except for my husband's iMac. He can't send email from his iCloud account. He can receive email to that account though, and he can send and receive email from his air and his iPad and iPhone..

The OS is 10.13.6,a late 2013 iMac. Mail is 11.5

In mail there is a ! sign. I can't seem to take it online either by right clicking or clicking taking all accounts online. Nothing happens when I do both those things. No 'enter password' or other message pops up when I close the iMac down and restart

Help please!

Thanks Eric. But this didn't help.

The enable account is checked, but the account is offline.

I right click 'take online' and that status doesn't change.

I've gone to account settings and the outgoing server is listed as 'none' I click icloud and it switches back to none. I go to edit smtp settings and enter imap.mail.me.com and the outgoing mail server still clicks back to none.

Any suggestions?

I don't want to delete the account - there are a lot of mail messages there
