The fan on my iMac is constantly running at high speed

My 2011 iMac has just started running the internal fans constantly from the time it starts up until I shut it off. This started last week and the first time it happened there was a puff of smoke that came out of the top of the housing. Is this something that can be fixed?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), 2.8G Intel Core7, 16G Ram

The first thing to try is resetting the SMC per SMC Reset, please do this 2-3 times back to back and then retest. If this does not solve it then shut down the computer, remove the RAM door and vacuum (DO NOT BLOW) out the intake, it's possible it's clogged with dust.
