Should I disconnect my time machine external hard drive before upgrading my OS to Mojave ?

I have a late 2014 Mac Mini running OS High Sierra 10.13.6


I am running automatic backups using Time Machine with an 1 TB external drive.


I want to upgrade my OS to Mojave.


Should I disable or disconnect the external drive during the upgrade process ?

Yes, if you want to be sure you don't mingle old systems with new ones. This leaves your current backup fully recoverable should anything go wrong. See Basic Steps for Upgrading OS X.
