Problem with Word for Mac

I'm currently running Word for mac V 14.7.2. (OS Mojave 10.14.1) I have a Word document (resume) that has been formatted on a PC. When I open the .docx document on a PC formatting looks fine. When I save it on my Mac the page break shifts downward which ruins the overall formatting. If I send the file back to a PC the altered formatting stays embedded and my page break is in the wrong place. Is there a way to prevent Word for Mac from ruining the formatting?

Microsoft never tested any Office 2011 for Mac applications on either High Sierra, or Mojave. The version that you mention is out of date, as the last version released by Micrsoft was 14.7.7 in Sept 2017. As this version of Office is end-of-life, you will no longer receive fixes from Microsoft, and they only recommend Office 2016 or 2019 for Mac for High Sierra and Mojave now.

Your particular Word issues could be caused by substantially outdated software that is not fully compatible with current Windows Word versions, or Mojave — a gap you could close by using the recommended Microsoft Office solution for Mac.

Presumably that 14.72 is current 2016, though—surprisingly—it’s not easy to translate that to,the marketing version. Upgrade to current, and patch to current, then check with the vendor; with Microsoft.

I’ve certainly seen inconsistencies in Word, on the same platform. As have others.

Alternatives exist, including LibreOfiice and the Apple iWorks page, both of which are free, and both of which can read and write Word documents.

Alos try Office 365, and see what that does.

There are other and completely approaches, using different tools, too.

But this is Microsoft Office software, so it’s best to check with the Microsoft support folks.
