Since I've updated to 12.9.1, I can no longer double click on a song and open it up to play. I can maneuver through my list of songs, but if I want to click on a different song (while another one is playing), I can't get it to play. The >> and << arrows work and will play the next song in line either way. I don't think this is a mouse issue because nothing else has been affected.

Thanks for the suggestion. The reboot took care of it, but I wonder if the fix is temporary. (I did reboot after the initial update.)
Well, it's not working again today. I don't shut my computer off every night when I'm done, so having to reboot before using iTunes each time is not an appealing option. So, what do you mean by... "you can keep the full tear down and rebuild up your sleeve"?
If it is working now then you're probably good, but you can keep the full tear down and rebuild up your sleeve.
