Unlock jpeg

I had some film developed and the images came back on a CD. I have been unable to import them into Photos. They are visible only when the CD is in the drive, otherwise Photos displays a message to locate the missing photo. When I open them in Preview, they are shown in gray, "Locked." However, Get Info does not show them as locked.

I am running macOS Mojave 10.14.1 on a Mac Mini (Late 2012) w/16GB memory, Photos is Version 4.0 (3411.5.190).

Any help much appreciated!

You may want to check the Photos > Preferences.

In Photos goto the menu "Photos > Preferences > General".

Make sure, that the option "Importing: Copy Items to the Photos Library" is enabled. If Photos does not copy the images from the CD into the Photos Library, Photos needs the CD to remain available, because it will reference the original images on the CD.

This is probably, because Preview cannot write to the CD. It cannot store any edits to the image files on the CD.
