Transferring data from broken iphone 6 to new iphone 6

My old iphone is broken but data has previously been backed up to the cloud, but don't know last time. The old phone cannot be plugged in. I got a phone from a friend and want to activate and transfer data. Thinking of going to Apple store or TMobil to see if SIM card still works. Any other suggestions in case they won't help?
