if i leave home while my pjone is backing up to icloud will it interrupt the process?

It's not a matter of whether you leave or not... as soon as you disconnect it from power, the backup will stop. In order to perform an iCloud backup, the device must be connected to power and WiFi. Normally, this would happen over night if you're like most people and plug it in to charge when you go to bed.
