You may have to test between default or Prominent haptics, but here are the instructions in the Apple Watch User Guide.

Adjust brightness, text size, sounds, and haptics on Apple Watch - Apple Support

Turn Digital Crown clicks off or on (Apple Watch Series 4 only)

On Apple Watch Series 4, you feel clicks when you turn the Digital Crown to scroll. To turn these haptics off or on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app User uploaded file on your Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Sound & Haptics, then turn Crown Haptics off or on.

Or, on your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, tap My Watch, tap Sounds & Haptics, then turn Crown Haptics off or on.

I have the same problem and have spent hours on the phone with Apple support and two visits to Apple Store. I have even gotten Apple to exchange my series 4 SS 44 mm for another same model. Same result. Bottom line (my belief), the haptic is working but is very weak and my old skin on my wrist has too few touch nerve endings to feel the haptic pulse. You can test that the haptic is working by putting the watch on your fingertips while rotating the crown. You should feel the pulse. the haptic engine has the power to generate a heavier pulse and I think Apple can correct this fault with software upgrade. Otherwise they screwed us with a poor design

I just picked up my Apple Watch Series 4. It is a 44mm GPS + Cellular. I have the Digital Crown haptic turned on. I'm not sure what you are doing and expect to feel. I can feel the haptic when I turn the crown, however, it only works under selected circumstances. If just looking at the screen, it doesn't do anything. However if I'm looking at mail, or something else like that, I can feel the haptic in my finger as I turn the crown. It is not as prominent as the haptic on the phone when you receive a text, etc., but it does work.

For the other poster, Lxvett, I don't think you would be feeling the haptic in your wrist as you turn the crown, just in your finger, which is touching the crown. From what I've read, and there is little information, and I copied and pasted that above, it calls them clicks that you would feel as you turn the crown. And I can feel the click as I turn the crown, but I feel that in my finger as I turn the crown, I don't feel it in my wrist.

I understand how the haptic engine works. I know how it feels, I just described how it appears to me. I know the difference between default and prominent haptic, and have mine set on that. I feel small taps, that Apple describes as clicks when turning the digital crown.

As far as the statement to keep posting until you get Apple to address it, I have to remind you that this is a user to user support forum, and Apple does not participate here. They do not use the forum for feedback either. If you wish to let Apple know about your problem and see if they address it, you need to use the feedback link here, https://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html That is the only way they get feedback about problems that users wish to see addressed.

One of Apple Watch's coolest features is the Taptic Engine, which sends you haptic feedback, or a light tap on the top of your wrist, when you receive a notification. It's so much less annoying than a chime or a vibration.

I disagree with you. The haptic tap is on the wrist through the back of the watch in contact with the wrist. Take your watch off and place it on your fingertips. Go to settings or some other app with many pages (or cards) and scroll with the digital crown. You will feel the pulses through the back of the watch case. They are just too weak to be felt on a man's wrist. (my wife can feel the pulse when I can't). Also, go to Haptic Alerts in Settings. Make sure it is on. Try the difference in Default and Prominent. It is felt on the wrist. also go to Alert Volume and tap on louder or softer icon. You feel the tap on your wrist. Read 9to5mac.com on the subject of Digital Crown by Michael.. He raves about it,but I don't experience anything like what he says.

Please keep posting on this until we get Apple to address it.
