No, not Apple:

It may have been bundled along with another third party application or malware.

Download and run Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes was developed by one of our own colleagues here in ASC and is about the most proven anti-malware software for Mac.

If Malwarebytes doesn't remove then run Etrecheck It is a diagnostic tool that's very useful to us in finding problems. It will show you a snapshot of your drive which will show where it is installed and you can remove it. Post the log file here, if you need help. It will contain no personal information.

Thanks for your post. I was having issues with browsers and 3rd party apps. Started with a "pdf reader" app popup that I got tricked into. Got rid of it--I think, but something with Google Chrome came up, (Google in general!) and I wanted to reinstall or just delete and not use altogether. Then later, after "reinstalling" something not right. Can't not get it to install. "not from Apple store". Can not delete it because it says it's "running". No it's not. Would not verify. Would not open, but appears open on dock. Can not "force quit". Just will not FQ! Then, I went to the "Applications" folder, that appeared on my Home-User file. I don't think I've ever seen the "App;" folder there before! When I went to open it to see if was, in fact, another way to access "Applications" folder, all that was showing in it was 2 apps: BeAware.app & Chrome Apps! Deleted & emptied trash. Still can not delete the Chrome app that is in App folder. Says "in use" and can not Force Quit.

Any Help??

I just managed to uninstall it.

it has starts up upon login so you need to: Go to system preferences, Select Users and Groups. click on your profile, choose login items and deselect Beaware.

Next, go to activity manager, find it there, and force quit (I had to open it for it to show up at the top of activity manager cause it hides in there, then force quit to be sure) after this you can drag it from utilities to trash.

hope this helps.

Had the same issue and looked throughout countless forums that offered similar suggestions from downloading Malwarebytes to accessing the LaunchAgents/Launch Daemons folders to delete recently added folders that could be linked to BeAware. None of these methods worked and surprisingly, the easiest method was typing in BeAware in Spotlight and showing "all" files linked to this naming convention. Once the list was provided, I was able to drag and drop the app directly into the trash with no issues.
